Greenville, N.C. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF softball team had a hard time manufacturing hits Saturday, dropping its first two Conference USA match-ups to East Carolina, 3-0 and 1-0. The losses caused the Black and Gold to fall to 16-11 on the season and 0-2 in C-USA.

Game One Recap

Three was the lucky number for the Pirates (18-6, 2-0 C-USA) in game one. East Carolina used three hits to get three runs in the third inning, two of those runs coming off a Charina Sumner triple to right-center field. Sumner eventually came in to score on a RBI single from Paige Baggett to claim the victory over UCF.

Breanne Javier (Castaic, Calif.) had the lone hit for the Golden Knights, getting a two-out double in the fourth inning off East Carolina starter Keli Harrell.

Cici Alvarez (Penbroke Pines, Fla./McArthur) moved one steal closer to becoming UCF's career leader after the third baseman stole second base in the first inning. The senior only needs one more swipe to take sole possession of first place from Jania Shinhoster with whom she shares first place with 74.

Freshman Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla./Pace) took the complete-game loss in the circle for UCF allowing three runs on five hits while fanning two.

Game Two Recap

Game two brought more bad news for the Golden Knights. Kaui Tom walked, stole second and scored on a throwing error by Lindsay Dean (Jacksonville, Fla./Mandarin) to make the score 1-0 in the first inning. That would be all the Pirates would need to take game two from UCF.

Allison Kime (Brandon, Fla./Hillsborough CC) kept the Pirates' bats in check despite taking the loss. The junior hurler threw an impressive one-hitter, striking out three in seven innings of work.

The Golden Knight offense managed to scatter four hits in the 1-0 decision, two coming off the bat of senior Kacie Feaster (Jacksonville, Fla./Trinity Christian). Feaster put down a bunt single to lead off the game in the first and singled to left field in the sixth, advancing to third on an Amber Lamb (West Palm Beach, Fla./John I. Leonard) grounder. It looked like the Black and Gold would rally for a run, but the center fielder was stranded at third on a ground out to first base.

UCF plays its third game of a three-game series with East Carolina Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. at the ECU Softball Field in Greenville, N.C. For the latest news and information on the Golden Knights, tickets or apparel log on to www.ucfathletics.com - the official site for UCF athletics.
