TULSA, Okla. (UCFAthletics.com) – The UCF softball team was unable to snap out of its offensive funk as it managed just one hit against No. 18 Tulsa in Saturday’s nationally-televised series finale. The Knights (18-20, 1-11 Conference USA) were locked in a scoreless tie with the Golden Hurricane (28-7-1, 9-0) through four innings of play, but allowed seven runs in the fifth inning and lost by the same margin at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
Sophomore Mackenzie Audas was strong early, but ran into trouble in the fifth. The Plant City native allowed just two hits and no runs in the first four innings before giving up seven runs, two earned, on five hits in the fifth. The loss dropped Audas to 7-12 on the year. Freshman Shelby Turnier recorded a pair of strikeouts in one hitless inning of relief.
Sophomore Farrah Sullivan picked up the only hit of the game for the Knights, a single to right field in the fourth. UCF was just unable to muster much offense against Tulsa’s starter Amiee Creger who struck out 11 in seven innings of work.
The Knights return to action on Wednesday with a non-conference showdown against No. 3 Florida beginning at 6 p.m. Last season, UCF defeated the Gators, 2-0, at the UCF Softball Complex.
The Black and Gold have six home games remaining at the UCF Softball Complex, with season tickets for the rest of 2013 season costing only $30. Single game and season tickets are available for purchase online at UCFAthletics.com and Ticketmaster.com, or by calling the UCF Athletics Ticket Office at (407) UCF-1000.
