GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – The UCF softball team went into Gainesville and gave No. 3 Florida everything it could handle for five innings, but the Gators (35-3) snuck away with a 2-1 victory over the Knights (18-21) in a rain-shortened five innings at Katie Pressly Seashole Stadium. The game was delayed for 25 minutes before the first pitch and was then called for good in the sixth inning.

Trailing 2-0, the Knights used their traditional aggressive base running to plate their only run in the top of the third. With senior Lauren Aldridge at third, fellow senior Danielle Brewer attempted to steal second and intentionally got herself in a pickle play to draw in the defense. Aldridge scampered home to score before Brewer was tagged out.

Sophomore Mackenzie Audas was equal parts dominant and wild on the evening. The Plant City native began the game with eight-consecutive strikeouts, but also issued six walks in that span. Overall Audas allowed just two hits and two runs in five innings of work. She finished the contest with 11 strikeouts and a career-high nine walks.

Freshman Mariah Garcia was solid at the plate as she went 2-for-3 with a single and a double. Freshman Taylor Wagner, making just her third start of the season, made the most of her opportunity as she was 1-for-2 with a single, sacrifice hit and stolen base. Fellow freshman Kirsten Foster also recorded a hit in just her second start of the year.

The Knights return to action this weekend with a Conference USA showdown against UTEP beginning with a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m. Before the first game, UCF will welcome the Friends of Jaclyn foundation for a Spring Carnival that will consist of games such as a softball speed pitch challenge, a water dunk tank and a basketball scoring contest where kids can have fun and win prizes.

The Black and Gold have six home games remaining at the UCF Softball Complex, with single game and season tickets available for purchase online at UCFAthletics.com and Ticketmaster.com, or by calling the UCF Athletics Ticket Office at (407) UCF-1000.
