Campbell's Jessica Huffman hit an in-the-park home run in the bottom of the first, plating three runs for the Fighting Camels in route to a 4-1 victory over UCF. The Camels improved to 23-19 on the season and 3-9 in the Atlantic Sun, while the Golden Knights fell to 32-20-1 on the season and 5-3 in the A-Sun.
Crystle Krafft was 1-for-2 at the plate for the Golden Knights with a solo home run, while Jania Shinhoster and Bryttanie Lindheim were each 1-for-3. Kelly McIntyre was tagged with the loss in the circle after pitching two innings and giving up three runs on three hits.
The second day of the doubleheader started in the Fighting Camels half of the first with two outs and a runner on first. Chelsea Gates reached first on an error, advancing Joy-Lee Richardson to third. Jessica Huffman scored both Gates and Richardson on an in-the-park home run to left field, her fourth homer of the season.
The Golden Knights got one run back in the top of the second when Crystle Krafft hit her eighth home run of the season.
Campbell added another run in the bottom of the fifth on a Megan Paul single to left field plating Huffman from second.
Huffman an d Paul led Campbell at the plate, going 2-for-3. Lauren Caviness earned the win in the circle, pitching seven innings and giving up one run on three hits.
The Knights had one run on three hits and one error, while the Fighting Camels had four runs on eight hits and no errors.
UCF returns to the softball diamond tomorrow when take on Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
