Luers-Gillispie Announces 2014 Signing Class

ORLANDO, Fla. ( - UCF head softball coach Renee Luers-Gillispie announced the signing of three future Knights to National Letters of Intent on Sunday. The signing class includes Megan Greenwell (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto Senior), Hailie Henson (Grapevine, Texas/Colleyville Heritage) and Courtney Rotton (Clermont, Fla./East Ridge).

The new student-athletes will join the UCF softball program prior to the 2014-2015 campaign.

“We are all extremely excited to have such a talented group of student-athletes joining our UCF family in the Fall of 2014,” said Luers-Gillispie.” They all have a wealth of strengths and are dedicated to keeping the UCF softball program strong on the field as well as in the classroom. We thank their parents, high school coaches and summer league coaches for preparing them to take on the challenge of Division I softball in the American Athletic Conference.”

UCF will return 17 players from last season's squad. A host of juniors will lead the team when the Knights open their season at home on Feb. 7, 2014, hosting the UCF Knights Invitational Tournament at UCF Softball Complex.

Megan Greenwell

Athletic Accomplishments:

First team all-Dade 2013.
Second team all-Dade 2012.
Third team all-Dade 2011.
Four-year varsity starter, and only freshman on varsity roster. 
Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
Has played for Miami Palmetto Senior High School softball team and Miami Stingrays travel ball team. 

Academic Accomplishments:
Maintains a 4.4 cumulative GPA


Hailie Henson: 

Athletic Accomplishments:
2012 Texas All District 6-5A First Team Catcher
2012 Texas 6-5A Catcher of the Year
2012 CHHS Defensive Player of the Year
2011 Texas All District 6-5A Second Team Catcher
Competed at the Adidas Futures All Star tournament in 2010 and 2011 (St George, Utah).
Four-year varsity softball player and varsity track discus thrower.
Qualified for Texas state track meet in 2010 and 2011.


Courtney Rotton: 

Athletic Accomplishments:
2013 MVP 
2012 Class 7A District 5 Champions with a 23-6 season record.
2012 Offensive MVP 
2011 Texas All District
2011 Defensive Player of the Year 
2011 BHSN All-Central Florida Softball second team. 
2011 Class 6A District 5 Champions with a 26-3 season record.
Three-year varsity letterer for East Ridge High School and starting third baseman (2011-2013).  
Three-year stats include: 75 games, .460 BA, .519 OBP, 104 hits, 66 RBI's, 72 Runs and 5 HR. Rotton recorded six total strikeouts, three each in her freshman and sophomore seasons.
Has played travel ball for Team North Florida, Tropic Wave Gold and the Oviedo Blaze. 

Academic Accomplishments:
Maintains a 3.66 GPA.
