GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 10 UCF track and field team delivered a solid effort in Sunday's Jimmy Carnes Invitational with several personal bests and a freshman's first-career victory.
Allison Lampert was crowned the winner of the high jump with a personal record 1.66m/5-05.25, out-leaping the runner-up by two feet for the first victory of her young career.
Sophomore Cody Castillo led the way for five runners who achieved personal bests in the mile. Castillo finished 10th in the tight-knit pack with a time of 5:21.28. Freshman Rachel Petrik was close behind at 5:21.98 and sophomore Amelia Williams followed in 12th place at 5:23.42. Freshman Caroline Pauls ran the first indoor race of her career and clocked a time of 5:26.02 while classmate Alyssa Hamel rounded out the group at 5:32.14.
Freshman Shemael Hamilton shined in the triple jump with a second-place finish thanks to her personal best 11.63m/38-02.00. She narrowly missed matching her personal record in the long jump, as well, with a mark of 5.51m/18-01.
Senior Erica Weiss produced the second-best performance of her career in the pole vault, hitting a season-best 3.70m/12-01.50 for third place. She fell shy of her school-record, personal best by one inch.
Freshman Heather Classe paced UCF in her first 5,000-meter race with a third-place time of 18:25.98.
