LINCOLN, Neb. - The UCF track and field team opened the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Friday night with five events at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Senior Destinee Romain took the title in the weight throw in a field of 26 competitors with a toss of 20.02/65-8.02, breaking the school record in the second-straight meet.

A career-high run of 7.41 in the 60m dash qualified sophomore Briana Vaughn for the finals on Saturday at 2:13 p.m., while freshman Paige Byrnes eclipsed a personal-record of 3.33m/10-11.00 in the pole vault.

Taking a fourth-place finish in the 400m dash was senior Afia Charles with a time of 54.91.

UCF continues the two-day event on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Romain competing in the shot put and Amelia Williams running in the one mile.
