ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF track and field team rallied with six medals on Saturday to finish fourth at the American Indoor Championship at the Armory. The Knights were awarded eight medals during the two-day meet.

Senior Afia Charles went to the podium three times on the second day for the Knights, including a school-record time of 53.75 in the 400 meters. The Greenbelt, Md., native won a pair of bronze medals by eclipsing personal-bests in the 200 meters (23.98) and 400 meters, while helping the 4x400m relay team to second.

Two personal records in the 60 meters final were tallied by sophomore Briana Vaughn, 7.44, and freshman J'Nea Bellamy, 7.47, to earn second and third, respectively. The 4x400m relay team of senior Ne'Ausha Logan, juniors Sandy Jean, Kirsten Nieuwendam and Charles posted a second-place finish of 3:38.14 to conclude the meet.

Eclipsing a personal-best in the high jump of 1.72m to earn a bronze medal was sophomore Allison Lampert.

In the 400 meters, Jean notched a career best with a time of 55.26, while Lia King also saw a personal-high with an 11.78 triple jump. Senior Jen Clayton, who took bronze in the long jump, just missed the podium with the triple jump of 12.30m.

Also coming in fourth in their respective events were Vaughn in the 200m and senior Erica Winston in the 800m.

The team title was captured by SMU with 118.5 points just ahead of UConn at 114. After third-place Houston, the Knights with 78 points clipped Louisville by one point.

The top honors for the meet were given to Emily Durgin, the Most Outstanding Track Athlete, of UConn and Rayann Chinn, the Most Outstanding Field Athlete, of SMU.

The NCAA Indoor Championships are set for March 14-15 in Albuquerque, N.M.
