Blaney, Clayton Lead UCF Track & Field to Open Georgia Tech Invite

ATLANTA, Ga. - UCF track and field senior Jen Clayton notched a second-place finish in the long jump to begin the Georgia Tech Invitational for the Knights on Saturday at George C. Griffin Track. Sophomore Anne-Marie Blaney eclipsed her school record and personal best with a mark of 4:30.58 to finish 11th in the 1500 meters.

The two-day meet provides the Knights with a final chance to obtain a top 48 qualifying time for the NCAA East Regionals on May 29-31 in Jacksonville.

The long jump of 6.22m/20-05.00 (+0.0) by Clayton came in her first attempt of the evening. Whitney Fountain of Clemson topped the mark in her final chance to clinch the event at 6.27m/20-07.00.

Leading a trio of Knights in the 100 meters was Christal Peterson, who moved onto the final with an 11.75 (+0.6) in the prelim. The Hampton, Va., native finished fifth in the final with a time of 11.78 (+0.4).

Freshman J'Nea Bellamy finished 11th at 11.83 (-0.3), while sophomore Briana Vaughn tallied the 13th-best time of 11.85 (-1.1) in the prelims of the 100 meters.

A mark of 14.47 (-0.1) was registered by freshman Lia King in the 100 hurdles to round out the running events for UCF.

Senior Destinee Romain recorded a toss of 14.26m/46-09.50 in the shot pot to come less than a foot shy of a new personal best. The Miami native finished 10th.

In the hammer throw, sophomore Kalen Hambrick came in ninth with a mark of 54.27/178-05, while Romain was just behind at 52.61/172-07.

Registering a throw of 38.81m/127-04 in the javelin was freshman Siaina Campbell to come in 10th.

Sophomore Allison Lampert starts the second day of the Georgia Tech Invitational with the high jump at 11 a.m. The 4x100 relay squad opens the running events at 1 p.m.
