GREENSBORO, N.C. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF junior long jumper Jen Clayton is the first Knight of 2013 headed to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Clayton emerged as the NCAA East Preliminary Round's top performer in Thursday night's event with her mark of 6.29m/20-7.75 (+1.9).

Clayton's bid to Eugene, Ore., was just one of the highlights for the No. 7 UCF track and field team. Five Knights advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective events and smashed a school record and meet record along the way.

Sophomore Sandy Jean glided through the first round of the 400 hurdles with a new school record, shaving half a second off her personal best. Her time of 57.07 won heat five, was the second-fastest time overall and automatically qualified her for Friday's quarterfinals, inching one step closer to Eugene.

All three Knights in the 100 meters automatically qualified for the quarterfinals with times that ranked among the top 10 of the day - a feat unmatched by any program in the East region.

Junior Aurieyall Scott clocked a season-best and near personal-best 11.15 (+1.7) for the fastest time of heat one, and she will stand as the favorite heading into Friday's competition. Sophomore Octavious Freeman clocked 11.17 (+1.3) to clinch heat three and the second-fastest time overall behind Scott. Both of the performances bested the former meet record (11.18) by LSU's Kimberlyn Duncan (2012) and Samantha Henry (2010).

Freshman Alexis Faulknor sped to a personal-best 11.42 for 10th-fastest qualifying time overall and the second-fastest time of heat two behind Duncan.

Junior Afia Charles ran 52.96, the second-best time of her career, to qualify for Friday's 400-meter quarterfinals.

Three-time All-American Sonnisha Williams finished her decorated career as a Knight, missing out on advancing to the long jump finals by a centimeter with her leap of 6.03m/19-9.5 (+1.6).

The NCAA East Preliminary Round continues Friday at 10 a.m. with the hammer. Live results will be available on flashresults.com and @UCF_Track will provide updates on Twitter.
