GREENSBORO, N.C. ( - The No. 7 UCF track and field team left nothing to chance Friday at the NCAA East Preliminary Round as four Knights automatically qualified in their respective events for the NCAA Championships.

Sprinters Aurieyall Scott, Octavious Freeman and Alexis Faulknor along with hurdler Sandy Jean will join long jumper Jen Clayton, who secured her berth Thursday as the region's top performer, in Eugene, Ore.

Scott, Freeman and Faulknor all advanced to the next stage in the 100 meters. No other program from the East will be represented by more athletes in the event at historic Hayward Field.

Scott led the pack with a region-best 11.05 (+3.8), setting a new all-conditions personal record. Freeman jetted to heat three's fastest time, 11.10 (+3.6), and Faulknor secured her first appearance at the national championships with the third-best time of heat three and an all-conditions personal-record 11.33 (+3.9).

Freeman and Scott executed in the 200 meters, as well, with the top qualifying marks of their respective heats to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals. Scott crossed the finish line in a wind-legal season-best 22.85 (+1.8) for day's overall top time while Freeman moved on to the quarterfinals with her time of 23.64 (+0.8).

Jean also advanced to the NCAA Championships in an individual event for the first time with her auto-qualifying time of 57.83 in the 400 hurdles.

Afia Charles was unable to make it through to Eugene in the 400 meters with her time of 53.38, but she will have a chance to help the 4x100 and 4x400 relays in their quest for a bid to nationals.

Five events remain for the Knights as they head into the final day of competition at North Carolina A&T's Aggie Stadium on Saturday. Action begins at 5:30 p.m. with the triple jump and shot put. Live results will be available on and @UCF_Track will provide updates on Twitter.
