DES MOINES, Iowa (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF track and field team was well represented Thursday at the USA Senior and Junior Championships in the first full day of action at Drake Stadium.
Octavious Freeman and Aurieyall Scott moved one step closer to the IAAF World Championships by automatically qualifying for Friday night's 100-meter semifinals. Despite a headwind, Freeman clocked the fastest time of heat three and the second-fastest time overall, 11.25 (-1.4). Scott moved through with the third-best time of the final heat, 11.57 (-3.2).
In the Junior Championships, freshman Alexis Faulknor automatically advanced to the 100-meter finals after posing the second-best qualifying time of 11.68. She faced a major headwind in the finals roughly two hours later and placed fourth in a time of 11.82 (-4.4) to remain eligible in the 4x100 relay pool for the Pan American Junior Championship in Colombia later this summer.
She enters Friday's long jump finals as the favorite by more than a foot.
Freshman Megan Patterson finished 10th in the shot put with her mark of 13.76m/45-1.75.
Friday's action will be stream throughout the day online at www.usatf.tv and the finals of the senior 100 meters will air on ESPN2 at 9:42 p.m. ET.
