ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s track and field season gets underway this weekend when the Knights open their 2014 campaign at the Kentucky Invitational.

Sixteen student-athletes will head to Lexington, Ky., on Friday and Saturday to compete in 11 events that begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and will resume at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Last season, then No. 11-ranked UCF posted a new school record and yielded four top-five finishes in its season-opener at the Kentucky Invitational.

Ne'Ausha Logan, Erica Winston, Heather Classe and Anne-Marie Blaney will team up for the 4000m distance medley. Last season, Logan, Winston and Blaney, along with Ebony Rose, shaved nearly 10 seconds off the distance medley relay record set in 2008 with a fifth-place time of 11:55.07.

Allison Lampert will represent UCF in the high jump. She posted a best showing by a freshman with her sixth-place performance of 1.65m/5-05 at the invite last year.

Senior Destinee Romain will take part in the shot put and weight throw. Romain bested her personal record in the weight throw at the Invite last season by more than 4 feet with a fifth-place mark of 18.23m/59-09.75. Also competing in the weight throw will be Kalen Hambrick, who finished eighth last season with a mark of 17.82m/58-05.75.

Redshirt sophomore Christal Peterson returns to the track on Friday, where she’s set to compete in both the 60m and 200m events. Peterson produced fifth and fourth place finishes, respectively, at the same meet last season.

Newcomers J’Nea Bellamy and Paige Byrnes will represent UCF in Lexington. Bellamy will participate in the women’s 60m and 200m dash, while Byrnes will compete in the pole vault.

Sophomore stunner Anne-Marie Blaney will return to the meet in the 3000m race. Blaney finished fifth last year with her time of 9:53.31
