ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF track and field team opens its highly anticipated outdoor season this Saturday when the Knights host the first of their two meets at the UCF Track and Field Complex. The Black and Gold Challenge features a seven-team field that will kick off the day-long event at 9 a.m. with the javelin.
UCF will welcome Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Northern Illinois, Illinois, Marshall and FIU.The Knights are coming off an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor National Championships - their highest showing in school history.
Sophomore Dominique Booker will highlight the 200 Meters after taking All-Conference USA honors in the event during indoor season. She is also scheduled to perform in the 100 Meters.
Senior Sheila Paul, a 2011 All-Conference USA Outdoor honoree in the 100 and 200 Meters, is scheduled to appear in both events. Last season, Paul qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 100 Meters and claimed All-America Second Team distinction.
Erica Weiss, who topped the school's pole vault record during indoor season, will represent the Knights in the event.
Several of UCF's jumps crew will mix it up by also competing in sprints. In addition to performing in the long jump and triple jump, Tomika Story and Jacquelyn Gilchrist will both run in the 100 Meters along with sophomore Jen Clayton. Sonnisha Williams is set to compete in the 200 Meters after earning her second-consecutive All America distinction in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships last weekend.
Freshmen Precious Ogunleye (throws), Shelby Blaes (middle distance), Teresa Huff (distance), Cody Castillo (distance), and Emmy and Ali Brandehoff (middle distance) will all suit up for their first outdoor test of their collegiate careers.
In all, 26 Knights are set to represent the black and gold at the meet. Results will be available via UCFAthletics.com at the conclusion of the day's competition.
- Concessions will be open from 1pm until the conclusion of the meet
- The field events will be on a rolling schedule while the running is a timed schedule.
- Parking will be located in behind the UCF baseball complex with overflow parking available at the Bright House Networks Stadium.
