ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF track and field team was recognized by the USTFCCCA as the No. 11 team in the nation in its preseason poll Tuesday. The Knights are the only Conference USA team present in the rankings and are second only to Florida (No. 7) among programs in the state.
Kansas garnered the No. 1 spot followed by Oregon, Arizona, defending champion LSU and Texas in the top five. Coupled with the outdoor season, UCF has not fallen out of the top 25 dating to April 26, 2011. USTFCCCA will release the first regular season poll April 2.
UCF began the outdoor season last week with the first of its two home meets. The Knights posted 10 times and marks among the nation's top 20 on the young season and did so without the talents of Aurieyall Scott and Octavious Freeman, who elected to rest following their outstanding performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
The Knights remain in Orlando against this week when they host the UCF Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Hurdler Lutisha Bowen, pole vaulter Erica Weiss, jumper Sonnisha Williams and sprinter Amanda Leland will be recognized for their careers during Saturday's Senior Day.
