ORLANDO, Fla. - UCF track and field sophomore Anne-Marie Blaney was selected as the American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

The Knights received even more good news when they broke into the USTFCCCA Top 25. No. 25 UCF is the only team in The American to be listed in the current poll.

Blaney's Award

For the third-straight meet, Blaney captured the title in the 5000 meters. This time it was at the prestigious Florida Relays with a school-record and personal-best time of 16:34.57.

The Ocala native edged Georgia's Carly Hamilton (16:35.24) by less than a second to post the victory at James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track.

The mark for the sophomore is the top 5000M performance so far in The American through three weeks of outdoor competition.

This is the sixth time that Blaney has been honored with a weekly award by The American. She was tabbed as the cross country athlete of the week five times during fall competition.

Knights Ranked

At No. 25, UCF is the only team in The American to earned acknowledgement in the USTFCCCA's first regular season poll. Texas A&M was ranked first followed by Florida, Texas, Oregon and Kentucky to round out the top five.

First-year head coach Jeanette Bolden has seen the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams post times that rank in the top 20 nationally.

Last week at the Florida Relays, the 4x400 relay team of seniors Afia Charles, Jen Clayton and juniors Devinn Cartwright and Sandy Jean broke the school record with a mark of 3:35.99. The time currently ranks No. 17 in the NCAA this year.

Junior Kirsten Nieuwendam, sophomore Briana Vaughn, freshman J'Nea Bellamy and Clayton with the 4x100 relay team is ranked 15th in the country after recording a time of 44.45 at the Black & Gold Challenge.

UCF has a week of practice before departing to a trio of meets in California on April 17-20. The Knights are set to compete in the Beach Invite, Bryan Clay Invitational and Mount Sac Relays.
