ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 12 UCF track and field team will head to Gainesville for the second time in three weeks when the Knights compete at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic this Saturday. Twenty-six student-athletes are well-rested after a week off from action and ready to make a statement.
Satrina Oliveira, Destinee Romain and Precious Ogunleye will get things started for the Knights in the hammer at noon. The trio also will represent the Black and Gold in the discus and shot put.
UCF's 4x100 Relay team will kick off the running events, which start at 2 p.m.
The Knights hope lightning will strike twice for freshman Octavious Freeman, who will highlight the 100 Meters after recording this year's world's-fastest legal time at the Pepsi Florida Relays on April 6 at Percy Beard Track. She will be joined by Dominique Booker, who ranks 16th nationally in the NCAA in the event, Amanda Leland, Sheila Paul and Jen Clayton.
Leland, Booker and Paul also will appear in the 200 Meters alongside sophomore Aurieyall Scott and Sonnisha Williams.
Williams and Clayton will pull double duty as the pair will represent UCF not only in sprints but in jumps as well. Williams ranks 15th in the country in the long jump heading into the weekend, and she will lead four Knights entered in the event with Clayton, Jacquelyn Gilchrist and Tomika Story.
Seniors Jackie Coward and Karessa Farley will look to topple Ohio State's Christina Manning off the NCAA national leader spot in the 100 Hurdles. Coward also will compete in the 400 Hurdles with Aisha-Maree Frazier.
Freshman Christal Peterson will appear in her first collegiate outdoor 400 Meters race and will be joined by sophomore Afia Charles.
Ali and Emmy Brandehoff, Ne'Ausha Logan, Amelia Williams and Erica Winston all will race in the 800 Meters while freshmen Shelby Blaes and Cody Castillo and sophomore Jessica Pachay will handle UCF's distance races. Erica Weiss and Teresa Huff will serve as the Knights' lone competitors in the pole vault and the 3000 Steeplechase, respectively.
