ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Senior Angelica Crump backed up her recent American Athletic Conference Player of the Week award with a match-high 23 kills as the UCF volleyball team toppled Jacksonville, 3-1, (25-21, 18-25, 25-15, 25-17) on Wednesday. The Knights (9-3) continue to give strong showings in front of their home crowd as they improved their record to 7-1 at The Venue at UCF.

Offensively, Crump was backed by junior DeLaina Sarden who continued her overwhelming run of efficiency by hitting .565 with 15 kills on 23 swings. Sarden improved her conference-leading attack percentage to .476 for the season. Junior Loren Cory was also strong for the Knights on the right side as she topped double-digit kills for the third time in her career after smacking 11.

“Offensively we were really able to spread the ball around,” head coach Todd Dagenais said. “We have some issues with the L2 spot scoring consistently, but that’s the same rotation with DeLaina and Loren in the front row and when they hit over .500 and over .400 it gives the L2 spot some leeway. We knew JU wasn’t going to give up tonight. They were 9-0 for a reason and in the first two sets they really executed their offense well. We just wore them down with our size and power as the match went on.”

The Knights hit .323 for the match and topped .400 in each of the three winning sets. The lone outlier was JU’s winning second set in which the Black and Gold hit just .077 with nine errors. Junior Marie Reiterova kept the offense balanced all match as she picked up her second-consecutive double-double with 54 assists and 16 digs. The Luxembourg native now has five double dips on the season. Junior libero Jade Hayes kept her streak of double-digit digs alive as she dug out 12 Dolphin attacks.

UCF heads back on the road for the final time in non-conference play this weekend as it travels to Boca Raton to take on in-state foe FAU. The Owls and Knights have met 37 times since FAU began volleyball in 1989 with UCF holding a 29-8 advantage in the all-time series.
