ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF head volleyball coach Todd Dagenais believes his 2014 squad has an opportunity to be special this fall. So, this summer the Knights are going on a special trip to prepare just a bit more ahead of the upcoming season.
The NCAA allows collegiate athletic programs to take an international tour every four years. For the first time under Dagenais, the Knights will take advantage of that opportunity this summer. But they still need to raise more funding to make the trip possible.
“Our players have worked very diligently to try to raise the money necessary to go to Canada,” Dagenais said. “Overall, the budget is about $40,000. We’re very close to achieving that goal. We’re just hoping there are people out there who are willing to invest in this team, invest in this team’s dream of winning a championship this year. Become a partner in that by donating to the GKC Volley Knights International account. Help us make that dream come true.”
Dagenais said any donation can make a difference.
“Simple donations of $50 or $100 add up and they go a long way,” he said. “A donation of $200 rents us a van for the week. A donation of $500 pays for a student-athlete’s air fare. A donation of $1,000 is a good sponsorship toward our housing. We’re looking for those individuals who really believe in women’s athletics and really believe that this team has an opportunity to do something very special.”
The Knights will begin training for the trip to Canada on May 20. UCF will leave then head for the Canadian Olympic Volleyball Training Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Knights will play eight high-level matches during their time up north, facing the Canadian Senior and Junior National Teams.
