ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF volleyball head coach Todd Dagenais announced Thursday that he has added three more talented student-athletes to the 2013 squad. Incoming freshmen Sarah Nemes from Orlando, Shelby Foyer from Carmel, Ind. and Natalie Melcher from Rishon LeZion, Israel have arrived on campus and will begin play with the Knights in the fall.

Nemes, a recent graduate of Lake Nona High School, is the second local product on the 2013 roster to go along with senior and Timber Creek graduate Roxy Mendez. As an Orlando native, Nemes was on the Knights' radar throughout her high school career. She played club volleyball at the Orlando Volleyball Academy where she was a co-captain.

“Sarah is a wonderful student-athlete that has really been part of our program since she was in the eighth grade,” Dagenais said. “Both her mother and father are proud UCF graduates and we’re very fortunate she’s decided to follow in her parents' footsteps and attend UCF as a part of our volleyball program. We’ll continue to train and develop her skills at the setting position and I know that her hard work and effort are going to help set the standard for how our team works on a daily basis.”

Foyer arrives on campus as the first Indiana native on the squad. She played for the Munciana Volleyball Club which is considered one of the elite junior volleyball clubs in America. She will challenge Mendez and junior transfer Jade Hayes for the starting libero position this fall and could see extensive time as a defensive specialist.

“Shelby comes to us from the Munciana Volleyball Club which is nationally-renowned for their production of defensive specialists and liberos,” Dagenais said. “She’s been trained by a pipeline of coaches that have produced All-Americans at that position and there is a possibility she could contribute on the court of us as soon as she adjusts to the speed of the collegiate game.”

The final roster addition, Melcher, comes to UCF by way of Israel. After a successful career for the Israeli youth and junior teams, she joined the Women’s National Team of Israel at the age of sixteen while also competing for Beit Ahinuh Ameshutaf high school. She will challenge for playing time on the outside as an offensive attacker.

“Natalie has trained under one of the absolute legendary coaches in volleyball history, Arie Selinger,” Dagenais said. “That type of high-level training and practice intensity is going to carry over into our gym. She will be an excellent example for our other athletes of what it’s like to train at the highest of international levels. Obviously we’re looking for her experience and athletic ability to help us out right away as soon as she gets adjusted to being a collegiate student-athlete.”

The trio becomes part of a squad that returns four starters and finished the 2012 season on a 13-3 run. The Knights reached the Conference USA championship match for the first time in program history and will look to carry that momentum into their inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference.
