ORLANDO, Fla. ( - As UCF Volleyball hits the hardwood for another day of practice on Tuesday, senior opposite hitter Loren Cory discussed the 2014 season, including her goal for the team this year.

"I think aiming to win conference is definitely in the ballpark for us," Cory said. "After that, the sky is the limit. A conference championship would be a great thing to work toward this year."

The Queensland, Australia, native played a key role in the 2013 season that saw the Knights win 12 American Athletic Conference games, the second time UCF has done this under head coach Todd Dagenais. Cory started 25 matches and notched 251 kills and 84 total blocks for the team that finished third in The American. This season, she wants to provide a consistent energy for the team in addition to her technical skills.

"I try to provide a leadership that is approachable," she said. "On the court, I try to be someone that is fun to play with and provides energy to the girls."

The Knights opens the season at home for the second season in a row. Cory noted that having The Venue as volleyball-only is really special for the team. In matches like last season's Volleybowl against USF, which set an attendance record for UCF, the fans provide an energy that sparks and encourages the team.

"I really enjoy what (The Venue) brings to us," Cory said. "Having people be loud and enjoy the game definitely helps us."

UCF Volleyball, which is presented by Radisson-UCF Area, opens the season at The Venue with the Radisson UCF Invitational on Aug. 29 and 30.
