ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Last Thursday, the UCF volleyball team traveled to a local bowling alley for an evening of exciting team-building activities. The players were being rewarded with a night off from practice by head coach Todd Dagenais after having several high-intensity and high-quality practices in a row. While at the event, the volleyball squad ran into the UCF spirit program, also holding a similar function at the same venue.
The two groups thought it would be clever to snap a photo of the two tallest female athletes at the school, 6'5" junior Loren Cory and 6'4" freshman Taylor Wickey, with the shortest cheerleader, 4'7" ½ sophomore Sammie Litten in the middle.
The picture was tweeted out that evening by both @UCF_Volleyball and @UCF_CheerTeam and immediately went viral, making rounds on various social media outlets. The picture's digital footprint expanded dramatically when it was picked up by sports digital media company, Bleacher Report, and tweeted out to their 354,000+ followers. This prompted hundreds of retweets and favorites of the photo that many viewers suspected was an optical illusion.
Fox 35 invited all three athletes to take part in an in-studio interview talking about the picture, how it came about, and their respective seasons. The interview took place Monday morning during the 8:45 segment on Good Day Orlando. Hosts Amy Kaufeldt and John Brown had this to say about the experience.
