JACKSONVILLE - Playing the second of seven consecutive matches on the road to start the season, the UCF (0-1) volleyball team vists Jacksonville (0-4) for a non-conference match on Wednesday evening. The contest at Swisher Gym is slated to start at 7 p.m.

The match will be aired live on www.UCFathletics.com as part of the UCF ISP Sports Network. Brandon Purrington and Ryan Rouse will have the call from courtside. Pre-match coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.

ABOUT UCF UCF heads north to Jacksonville in search of its first victory of the young season. The Golden Knights opened the campaign on Aug. 27, dropping a 3-2 (30-17, 26-30, 30-20, 24-30, 15-9) match at Florida A&M. The Rattlers, who were receiving votes in the AVCA national poll, hit .667 in the decisive fifth game, compared to only .250 for the visitors.

Jana Mitchell paced UCF with 12 kills and Chaz Arah totaled 11 kills and four blocks. Playing her first contest as a Golden Knight, Leah Alexander recorded 30 assists. Katie Kohnen paced the squad with 10 digs.

Head coach Meg Colado is in her seventh season at UCF. She has a 126-83 (.603) overall coaching mark and is 111-67 (.624) with the Golden Knights.

ABOUT JACKSONVILLE The Dolphins are coming off a 3-0 (30-19, 30-17, 30-20) loss at No. 8 Florida on Monday night. Junior outside hitter Eva Stoilova led Jacksonville with eight kills and 13 digs. On the season, she paces the team, averaging 3.57 kills per game. Senior setter Erin Donivan totaled 21 assists versus the Gators and is averaging 9.64 assists per game. In four contests this season, the Dolphins are hitting just .153 as a team. At Florida, the team hit just .047 for the match.

Head coach Kevin Paul is in his second season with the Dolphins. He is 15-18 (.455) at the school and is in his second year as a head coach at the Division I level.

SERIES HISTORY UCF holds a 38-13 edge in the all-time series with the Dolphins. The two former Atlantic Sun rivals met in the conference tournament in 2004, with Jacksonville taking a 3-0 (30-28, 30-23, 34-32) victory in Orlando. Under head coach Meg Colado, UCF is 7-2 versus the Dolphins. In matches played in Jacksonville, the Golden Knights have dominated the series, winning 13 of 15 matches.

BACK ON CAMPUS Wednesday's contest marks a homecoming for UCF assistant coach Juanita Hitt. Hitt played for the Dolphins from 1999-00 and was an assistant on the JU staff for the 2001 season.

A TOUGH SLATE Jacksonville is UCF's second consecutive opponent that participated in the postseason a year ago. The Golden Knights opened the 2005 campaign at Florida A&M. In total, UCF is slated to face four squads that played in the NCAA Championship a year ago. This weekend, UCF will participate in the Diet Coke Classic in Minneapolis, Minn., hosted by Minnesota. Last season, the Golden Gophers advanced to the national title match.

UCF SIDELINES Jacksonville is one of three Atlantic Sun foes that the Golden Knights will face this season. The team hosts Florida Atlantic and North Florida. 2005 will mark North Florida's first in the A-Sun... After spending time at setter last season, senior Katie Kohnen will play exclusively at libero in 2005... At 6-2, junior Vesna Ukic is the tallest outside hitter to play at UCF under head coach Meg Colado... Kohnen and Jana Mitchell have been selected by the coaching staff as team captains.

ON DECK UCF returns to action this weekend, competing in the Diet Coke Classic in Minneapolis, Minn. from Sept. 2-3. The Golden Knights will open the event on Friday, facing Xavier. On Saturday, the squad will play host Minnesota and then conclude the tournament against North Dakota State... UCF is 1-1 all-time versus Xavier. The Musketeers claimed the last meeting, taking a 3-0 win in 1995 as part of the Pizza Inn Classic in Fayetteville, Ark... Minnesota holds a 5-0 series edge with UCF. The teams last played in 1996 in the NCAA Championship first round. Behind a 15-7 victory in game five, the host Golden Gophers won, 3-2. Minnesota is ranked 6th in the AVCA preseason poll... North Dakota State and the Golden Knights have never met.
