“This is a great opportunity for us to really step up the level of competition we’ve faced.” Head coach Todd Dagenais said. “Clemson is a tough ACC team that was top 50 caliber in the country last season and appears to be very strong again this year. Our coaching staff has done extensive preparations on Georgia State, Buffalo and Davidson as well and we feel this tournament is full of quality opponents.”

This weekend also marks a special homecoming for three Knights. Senior Angelica Crump is an Atlanta native, while juniors DeLaina Sarden and Ashley Gialenios are from neighboring suburbs of the city.

“This trip is special for us because we have three players from the Atlanta area in Angelica, DeLaina and Ashley.” Dagenais continued.  “They are all going to have a lot of family there supporting them and we’re excited to have that kind of fan support on the road.”

Riding a six-match winning streak, the Black and Gold has shown off a dynamic offense early on this season as they are currently fifth in the nation in team hitting percentage at .333. The catalyst of this attack has been Sarden as she leads The American Conference with 94 kills and ranks third in the nation with a .552 attack percentage.

UCF is looking to maintain its momentum after a successful winning the Holiday Inn Select/UCF Classic last weekend. Sarden won Tournament MVP and earned her second-consecutive All-Tournament team selection of the season after smashing 36 kills in 11 sets. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native also denied 14 shots (six solo).

Joining Sarden on the All-Tournament team were freshman outside hitter Taylor Gallart and junior setter Marie Reiterova. Gallart pitched in 35 kills on a strong .406 attack percentage while chipping in 19 digs. Reiterova, who has had a masterful command of the Knights offense, dished out 135 assists (12.2 per set) while contributing nine combined blocks and 20 digs.
