ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF volleyball team is ready to bounce back in front of its home crowd as it returns to The Venue for a pair of matches in The American against Temple and Memphis. The Knights currently sit in sixth place in the conference standings, but are just one game out of third and two games out of second place.
On Friday night the Knights (13-7, 4-3 The American) will honor all the hard working men and women at UCF when they celebrate Staff and Faculty Night against the Owls (15-4, 6-1) at 7 p.m. All UCF staff and faculty members are invited to show their Knight Pride as they get free intermission and will be honored throughout the match.
Temple is led offensively by its right-side hitter Gabriella Matautia. Matautia has 261 kills on 722 attempts this season, nearly 300 more attempts and 100 more kills than anyone else on the Owls roster. Temple comes into Friday’s match with lots of momentum as they have won a league-best five-consecutive matches and hold the conference’s best overall record at 15-4.
Sunday’s match is UCF volleyball’s annual “Volloween” celebration as fans are invited to not only watch the Black and Gold take on the Tigers (11-10, 3-4) at 2 p.m., but also come dressed in their best Halloween costumes and be ready to eat some delicious candy. Volloween will feature a costume contest with gift cards prizes for the best and scariest costumes of the day.
The Knights will attempt to counter both squads with their dynamic offensive duo of senior Angelica Crump and junior DeLaina Sarden. Crump leads The American with 3.69 kills per set while Sarden continues to set the pace in efficiency with a .402 attack percentage. Junior setter Marie Reiterova has been the maestro of UCF's offensive attack, averaging a league-high 11.52 assists per set.
Please note, due to an event at the CFE Arena, free parking for the volleyball match on Friday will be located in the baseball grass lot located behind the UCF Baseball stadium on West Plaza Drive or in the E8 surface lot located on Orion Blvd. Garage F and Garage D will be paid parking for the CFE Arena event.
