ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After playing two matches on the road last weekend, the UCF volleyball team returns home to host both Tulane and Southern Miss this weekend in a critical Conference USA series at The Venue at UCF. The Knights will battle the Green Wave Friday at 6 p.m., before taking on the Golden Eagles Sunday at 1 p.m., live on Bright House Sports Network.
The Black and Gold enters the weekend with a 12-12 record on the season, while it is tied with Memphis for sixth place in league standings with a 5-7 mark. Head coach Todd Dagenais' squad has won five of its last eight matches, which includes a victory over Tulane on the road. UCF needs only one win to tie and two to surpass its best win total in C-USA play since joining the league in 2005.
On Friday night, the Knights will host a post-match watch party for the UCF vs. Houston football game following its match against the Green Wave. The game will be shown on a jumbo-sized screen, with fans having the opportunity to experience all the game-day traditions of a home football game and the atmosphere of Bright House Networks Stadium.
Not only will fans be able to take in the C-USA doubleheader of UCF volleyball and football Friday night, but the first 200 through the gate will receive free UCF vuvuzelas courtesy of SGA.
On Sunday afternoon, Bright House Sports Network will be airing the Knights' contest vs. the Golden Eagles live beginning at 1 p.m. on Bright House channel 47 for digital cable subscribers. Fans can also follow all the C-USA action live on Knights All-Access and on Gametracker at UCFAthletics.com.
The Green Wave has been struggling as of late, as it heads into Orlando with a 7-18 overall record and a 4-9 league clip after falling to both UAB and Memphis last weekend. Offensively, Izabela Grot leads Tulane and ranks 11th in C-USA with a 3.17 kills-per-set average. Tulane and UCF have already met once on the court this season, with the Knights claiming a five-set (26-24, 21-25, 14-25, 25-21, 15-9) victory over the Green Wave in New Orleans.
The Golden Eagles have been one of the hottest teams in the league the past four weeks, winning seven-consecutive matches in C-USA. The streak began on Oct. 15 when Southern Miss barely edged the Knights in Hattiesburg, 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-19, 12-15) in the teams' only other meeting in 2010. Ashley Mell, the reigning C-USA Player of the Week, leads the Golden Eagles and ranks second in C-USA with a 4.53 kills-per-set average.
The Knights return to the friendly confines of The Venue at UCF for four-straight matches beginning Nov. 5 with a Friday night match-up vs. Tulane. During the home stretch, the Black and Gold will also take on Southern Miss, Tulsa and SMU, with the contest against the Golden Eagles on Nov. 7 set to air live on Bright House Sports Network.
