Kelvin Johnson joined the UCF coaching staff in June of 2017 as the program's Director of Player Development. In the five years Johnson has been on staff, the Knights have complied an 88-60 record, been to the NCAA Tournament (2018-19) and placed over 30 athletes on the AAC All-Academic team.
Johnson, who grew up in the Washington D.C. area, played against head coach Johnny Dawkins in youth and high school basketball. Johnson was a standout at DeMatha High School before moving on to play collegiately at Richmond.
A four-year starter and two-time captain of the Spiders, Johnson was an integral member of Richmond's first ever postseason team that appeared in the 1982 NIT, and the school's first NCAA Tournament team, defeating Auburn in the first round in 1984.
Johnson, a fifth round pick of the Indiana Pacers in the 1985 NBA Draft, was inducted into the Richmond Athletics Hall of Fame in the Class of 2008-09.
